Hello to Siteseers Old and New,
For the new of you, this is my story. I began exclusively photographing children more years ago than I want to mention, long ago when no professional in their right mind photographed children. I couldn't bear having kids plunked in weird positions with cheezy smiles, I wanted them to tell their own story. So my high key (on a white background) illustrative work gave the kids and me that opportunity. My clients so offen asked me to create a book of my favorite work that in 2000, by a fluke, I published a little gift book called Held in the Arms of Love. A combination of clean sketchy work with questions to encourage a new parent to write a letter to their child.
This book set me on the adventure of a lifetime, which includes the friday letters on this site. My hope is that this blog becomes a weekly landing place for parents who want to write to their children but don't have the foggiest how to start. Find a friday letter question that sparks you and write one little paragraph to your child. If you are bolder you may want to take this on weekly and collect a variety of short letters for your child to read when they become an adult.
For the photographers of the group, you may want to take pictures about the weekly topic to accompany your letters.
Have fun writing!
Bev Hawley
