"The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery."
Mark van Doren
I had the opportunity to volunteer in my grandson's class this week. Years ago, before we started our family, I taught this grade level. It was so much fun to return in a volunteer position without the responsibility for the entire class.
The project we were working on was using acrylics on canvas...art...my favorite subject matter. Having children who didn't think they were artists discover they really are. To watch timidity turn into adventure and success, with just a small piece of encouragement from the teacher, was so rewarding.
An art professor did that for an entire class full of college students. This was umpteen years ago, I no longer recall his name nor did I ever tell him how he impacted my life. A great teacher can change the course of one's life and set you on the path you had no idea you were to take.
. A challenge:
Take a picture of your child with his or her teacher. Have the teacher write something special about your child. Incorporate those words on a creative page with the picture. (Love to see some of these pages when you are done.)
